UMKC Dental School students enjoy brunch while networking with dentists and other industry professionals

The Kansas Dental Association held another successful Real World Transition Brunch event on Friday, April 11, at the Sheraton at Crown Center in Kansas City, MO, in accordance with the Midwest Dental Conference.

About 80 current UMKC dental students attended the event, as did a 2013 UMKC graduate who had just completed a General Practice Residency in Ohio, and a dental student from Creighton University in Nebraska.

About 30 dentists and their colleagues came from across Kansas to the Real World Transition Brunch seeking associates or selling a practice.

Booths were set-up by professional guests Oral Health Kansas, Wichita AEGD, Kansas Association for the Medically Underserved- whose dental centers Turner House Children’s Clinic and Flint Hills Community Health Center set up exhibits as well; Aftco Practice Transition Management, Johnston Fiss Insurance, Guardian Insurance, Tax Favored Benefits, and UMB Bank. Chris Chico, of the American Dental Association, also exhibited the New Dentist Conference, which will be held in Kansas City this summer from July 17-19 (also at the Sheraton at Crown Center).

Students were given punch cards, and as they visited different booths, the exhibitor would punch a hole in the card. If students visited at least 5 of the 9 booths, they were entered into a drawing fora  chance to win a $200 Gift Card to the Country Club Plaza.

“We are pleased to announce that Andrea Rice, UMKC class of 2014, is the winner,” said Jennifer Jones, KDA Finance and Membership Coordinator and director of the Real World Transition Brunch event. “Thank you again to our event sponsor, Steve Willis, Guardian Insurance for making the RWTB a success.”

Attendees should look for a follow-up list of dentists/students in their email in the next few days for further networking.
