While widespread catastrophic events like hurricanes, tornados and flooding can have devastating effects on communities, the reality is that at any time, a wiring malfunction or water pipe breakage can cause a crisis in a dental practice.
The ADA Foundation announced yesterday they were providing assistance to New Mexico and Colorado dentists impacted by the flooding in those areas through its Emergency Disaster Grant Program. A similar program exists within Kansas and the KDCF can provide disaster relief for dentists who are impacted by either widespread or localized disasters.
The Kansas Dental Charitable Foundation (KDCF) has provided financial assistance for many of these large scale disasters in the past decade, including Hurricane Katrina, Sandy and the Joplin tornado.
The ADA encourages members to be proactive in their planning for such catastrophes to ensure that a dentist’s practice continues to function (when possible) and the five simple steps toward disaster recovery.
