Brian Bookwalter joins the KDA on June 9

The Kansas Dental Association (KDA) is pleased to announce the hiring of Brian Bookwalter as the association’s communications coordinator.  Brian’s hiring was precipitated by the recent departure of Assistant Executive Director Greg Hill who will become the Executive Director of the Colorado Dental Association on June 1.

Brian earned his BFA from Kansas State University in May of 2001, majoring in Graphic Design and Illustration. He worked as a graphic designer for an educational publisher in Manhattan, Kansas before earning his Master of Fine Arts degree in Visual Communication from Kansas State in May of 2010. He moved to Topeka with his wife Kristin shortly thereafter where he has worked for two different advertising agencies.

Executive Director Kevin Robertson hired Brian after consulting with KDA staff and the Executive Committee about the staffing needs necessary to best serve the KDA membership.  According to Robertson, “Brian brings education and experience in publication, graphic and website design, as well as videography from which the KDA and its members will greatly benefit.”

Brian’s responsibilities will include written publication layout and design including the Journal of the KDA; KDA Directory; meeting, event and other brochures; website design and content; social media; creating the email-based KDA Enews; and videography and video editing on productions such as the KDA Video Minute and other video projects.

Brian’s experience includes working as a sole proprietor and agency graphic designer including graduate teaching roles with Kansas State University and Washburn University.  He is a member of WordPress Kansas City and is an active member with the American Advertising Federation of Topeka where he currently serves as club President.

As part of the staff reorganization, Executive Director Kevin Robertson will assume the role of Executive Director of the Kansas Dental Charitable Foundation, Niki Sadler will be responsible for Peer Review and the Well Being Programs, and Kylie Fleck will move from a part-time to a full-time employee.  In addition, Jennifer Jones will retain her bookkeeping and membership responsibilities including organizing High Heels and Handpieces and the annual Real World Transition Brunch.

Brian will assume his duties with the KDA on Monday, June 9.  Welcome to the KDA!
