We’ve seen mobile apps for just about everything. As connected health devices are becoming more and more popular with consumers, it was only a matter of time before the first connected toothbrush was unveiled.
Kolibree, a company dedicated to innovative solutions to keep you healthy and smart, announced their unveiling of the world’s first connected electric toothbrush at the International Consumer Electronics (CES) show in Las Vegas. Kolibree’s press release says that the smart toothbrush has a unique technology to analyze your brushing habits and display them on a mobile dashboard you can readily access from your phone.
Again, according to the website, a person can simply download the free mobile app, connect via Bluetooth and each tooth brushing recorded. The data about how you brushed automatically synchronizes to your smartphone telling you whether you brushed long enough and reached the hard-to-reach but important parts of your teeth and gums.
Designed for families, the app works with several toothbrushes so the entire family can participate. Kolibree rewards your progress and cheers you on when you are improving, allocating points to kids to encourage them to improve their brushing habits. Users can share their brushing data with their dentist or keep their data private. The product is expected to launch publicly later this fall at a price point between $100 and $200.
Would you recommend a product like this to your patients? How can dentists use technology like this to encourage better brushing, but at the same time, ensure that patients don’t simply analyze their own data and don’t seek professional dental care?
Let us know your thoughts. As someone who follows technology trends, I feel pretty safe saying that this won’t be the last smart toothbrush we see. Let us know when your patients ask you about this technology.
