Bruce Bergstrom, former Executive Director of Americas Dentists Care Foundation and former member of the Board of Directors of the Kansas Dental Charitable Foundation received Honorary Membership in the American Dental Association during the ADA Annual Session in New Orleans on Monday.
Bergstrom’s service to dentistry began when he served as a general volunteer for the Kansas Mission of Mercy in 2003, accompanying his wife, Mildred, a dental hygienist. “He was known only as Bruce from Lebo, Kan.,” said Dr. Gary Roberts, ADA 12th District trustee. “His hard work and passion for the project was quickly recognized and soon he was asked to serve on the Board for the Kansas Dental Charitable Foundation.”
“Bruce has an amazing talent for bringing stakeholders to the table and getting them to share their time and talents with the whole dental profession,” said Dr. Jeff Stasch, a general dentist who practices in Garden City, Kan., and who has worked with Mr. Bergstrom at MOM events for a decade. “Yet at a project he will be loading trucks and packing equipment. And this from a man in his 70s!”
“It is hard to fathom that one individual could be responsible for so much because there are so many individuals who have volunteered at many MOM projects,” said Dr. John T. Fales, Jr., Kansas Dental Association treasurer. “Bruce would be the first to tell you that he is a very small part of this amazing movement. I respectfully disagree.”
